The default USB3 controller driver that Windows 8.1 Pro uses is the cause of the restart hang. That needs to be replaced. The Renesas Electronics USB 3.0 Host Controller needs to be running driver version 2.1.28.1. I found USB3.0allOS2.1.28.1PV.exe from Intel’s website, you can download it here. Just unpack the exe, and run ’setup.exe’, it’s. The other STLinkGDB clients have the proper support for USB3. With emBlocks you have to use USB2 or special USB drivers. In my case, I had the USB3 in my Dell monitor and I didn’t realize that. In my computer all USB3 connectors are blue and USB2 connectors are black. Once I connected STM32F4xx to my Dell keyboard (USB2) things resumed to work OK.Usb3 0_allos_2 1.28 1_pv Executive DeskUsb3 0_allos_2 1.28 1_pv Executive ChairSo the USB controller model TS-PDU3 comes with an NEC chipset.NEC is called RENESAS now.You can see the lineup atwww.renesas.com/prod/usb/map/assp_host.htmlEDIT: Updated link : http://www.renesas.com/products/soc/usb_assp/index.jspI think it’s the µPD720200, but I couldn’t find a way to download drivers for it from their site.http://www2.renesas.com/usb/en/product/upd720200.htmlDownload the transcend driver and install.filename : RENESAS-USB3-Host-Driver-20320-setup.exeIt will install asdate : 12/10/2010version : 2.0.32.0Then go to intel’s website and download their updated drivershttp://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=19880&lang=eng&wapkw=filename : USB3.0_allOS_2.1.28.0_PV.exeEDIT: updated file same link is USB3.0_allOS_2.1.28.1_PV.exeRun and it will automatically update todate : 10/25/2011version : 2.1.28.0Maybe there are newer drivers but this fixes the issues with recognizing some USB drives. This was all tested on Windows 7 x64.
